HALIFAX, N.S. — Been speeding lately and think there are no cops around to catch you? They may not be there but they do have hired eyes watching.

Police in Halifax are adding a traffic trailer that will not only display your speed in large numbers, but will also record how many vehicles are speeding day.

The new $25,000-piece of equipment arrived in April and has already been used on a dozen or more streets. Halifax Regional Police says they will be able to determine if speeding is really a problem on neighborhood streets without having to witness it.

If you are worried about tickets, exhale, the new contraption does not record licence plates and cannot be used to issue speeding tickets. The traffic trailer particularly target areas like crosswalks near schools to encourage drivers to slow down in those areas, says one officer.
