VPA reservations limited to fleet size

VANCOUVER — The Vancouver Port Authority has cut back on the number of reservations allowed to container carriers with five or fewer trucks.

Starting today under a trial initiative, Deltaport, Vanterm and Centerm will restrict the number of reservations to two reservations per truck per terminal per day for any company with five VPA-registered trucks or fewer. Fraser Surrey Docks has also agreed to participate once systems for its new reservation system have been finalized.

Larger fleets, who complained that they could not access the reservations system (especially at Deltaport), had been urging that the VPA make the change so that carriers receive fair access to available reservations proportionate to their size.

Also, according to the B.C. Trucking Association, Deltaport announced that it would be unable to implement new truck reservation software originally scheduled for May 22, 2007 until October 21, 2007.
